Dr. Liu Sheng received his Bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University in 2014 and PhD degree from UC Berkeley in 2019. His research fields include smart city operations (transportation, logistics, and sustainable infrastructure), data analysis, and optimization. Dr. Liu’s research papers were published in academic journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & amp; Service Operations Management, INFORMS Journal on Computing, and IEEE, etc. He had developed advanced decision-making models for domestic and foreign companies such as Amazon, Lyft, JD.com, and Petro China.

The topic ofDr. Liu’s speech was“Data-Driven and People-Centric Models for Urban Logistics Operations Management”. The speech mainly introduces the two research topics in urban logistics operation and management. The first topic studied the distribution time prediction and commitment of online retail, using the relationship between distribution time and orders, customer and warehouse characteristics, using quantile regression forest forecast distribution time distribution, on the basis of designing a classification decision model considering the opportunity cost and delay cost, to formulate the decision rules of delivery time commitment. The excellent performance of the study was verified by simulation of a large data set of a large online retailer in China. The second topic investigates the optimal region partition strategy considering service time and distance in a stochastic dynamic environment. The strategy equally divides the entire distribution area into several sub-regions by sandwich cutting and 3 cutting, each assigned one driver, and all orders from the sub-region were assigned to this driver. This topic demonstrates that the distribution time of this strategy converges to the optimal distribution time of the flexible scheduling strategy with large flow, and verifies the role of the region partition strategy through real data simulation.
