Abstract:

In this academic talk, Professor J.T. Li discusses a study on how voting dissent by institutional investors affects turnover among non-CEO executives. Existing research on shareholder voting dissent has largely focused on turnover of board chairs or CEOs, while overlooking its effect on other top managers. Based on a sample of S&P 1500 firms from 2004 to 2019, the study finds and verifies that when institutional investors vote against directors in board elections, turnover among non-CEO executives increases.
